Third Times A Charm!

I took a photo of this concrete sink at a restaurant in Dallas in 2015. From the beginning of designing Given House, I wanted this sink in my upstairs guest bathroom. We originally planned concrete floors for a part of the downstairs and I thought it would be good to carry the concrete upstairs. I also wanted to do this so I would know more about concrete sinks for my own clients.

Here was the initial plan.

Sadly, I learned that concrete sinks in the Florida Panhandle are expensive, and over my budget. (We got two bids, which were within $100 of each other and both over $5K.)

Needless to say, I redesigned the guest bath, and made some changes to the plumbing, only to learn that too would not work because of the limited space. The concrete trough sink was only going to be 21” deep. As we physically stood in the bathroom, we could all tell even a 21” deep cabinet wasn’t going to work.

So, one more time, I drew the bathroom. In all honesty, I woke up at 3AM the morning after learning plan 2 wasn’t going to work. I lay awake designing in my head and finally got up and drew this sketch.

I was heartsick to go from the trough sink, to two sinks and now to one sink. (But that does save money on plumbing and lighting!) These towel towers are only 16” deep, so there is a little more room as guests enter the bathroom. The inside back of the towers will be wood and the outsides will be shiplap, which runs across the back wall above the sink.

I had already chosen this cement tile for the floor that I love, so that helps.

I switched to this wall mount faucet to save room on the countertop and ordered this light.

Betting I’ll be happy when it all comes together.
